Ken, I was going to hold back buying that bag but, decided to put in a order for the 307! Heck! It's Christmas, right? :D

I like the way you think :D

It's definitely a great bag, get it now and it'll be nice and broken in for your 1DX ;)

Just left 17th St photo and they really took care of me. They had no more 307 bags so they gave me an upgrade, I went with the 445. Not quite as attractive as the 307 but still a great looking bag and much more spacious. I can see it doing double duty as a nice weekend bag. :D

And better to work out of IMO :)

If you fill it up, you'll need a Sherpa though

Wow! That's quite an upgrade. One of the very best large bags out there in my opinion. A real shooters bag. Good deal Ken - enjoy it in health.

What Rene said - if you fill that up you're going to need a Sherpa.

thanks guys it's larger than I intended to buy but I couldn't pass up the deal. I'll get some pics up when I fly back home, but the bag is amazingly spacious without having a huge footprint, my Evo 9 doesn't even come close to holding as much. I think I'm turning into a Billingham addict, do we have a bagwhores anonymous thread somewhere? :D

I have a question and maybe it has already been covered....the superflex inserts that come with the 307 don't seem to be very accomodating for several of my larger "L" glass like the 85. What size partition do I need to be looking at for some of the larger width L's?

Here is a "size chart" for SuperFlex inserts if you haven't seen it:

Here are some links I previously posted:

There is a real art to figuring out how to best utilize the Superflex inserts ... even to the point of cutting the smaller end off and using 2 side by side for smaller lenses. There have been some threads regarding this here on POTN. I find the actual internal dimensions of my Billy 207 to be slightly larger than the published specs, so certain side-by-side inserts will fit even though the numbers say they won't.

This may help some:

Follow some of the links off of the main article for more information too.

Howard, thanks for the links and info. It's still a bit confusing as I want to carry lenses with their respective hoods. None of the pics I've found have any hoods on lenses in the bag. Takes up more space within the bag, but I feel more comfortable shooting with hoods. I think I will start with ordering one of the bigger inserts and go from there, trial and error.

I will say that I will exhaust all means to make this bag work for me. It is by far the most beautifully made bag I've ever used. Even my wife said, "wow...thats a really nice bag." I think she wants to steal it for a diaper bag lol...

You can get a pretty good idea by measuring the diameter of the hood, then looking at the size chart to find one with the closest diameter, probably a #9 or #10. Then measure the capped length of the lens and pick a insert from that row that is the height you need. (Yes ... hoods can be problematic with bag selection!)

You really do n't need a insert for every position, since the bag itself is padded and has a padded bottom. A single insert in the middle, with free space on both ends is how I have my smaller 207 arranged, although I did buy a bigger insert (9-15) to replace the one which came with the bag. I can get the f/2.8 zoom trio in there with a flash, but more likely I will leave the 24-70L at home and carry the 35L, 16-35L, and 70-200L plus a TC and flash.

Sometimes I think I should have gotten the bigger 307 too, but I am serious about making the mid-size bag work for me.

The Billingham Photo Eventer.

This bag is no longer in production for some time. I have been informed that it was replaced by several models. Nevertheless, I managed to buy one of the remaining pieces at the retailers some years back. It is a wonderful design because it is half leather, removable insert (allowing it to be used as a sachel), has a top handle and is a little larger than the Hadley Large. This bag was bought to complement my Hadley Pro Khaki when I need to bring two strobes and additional lenses that the Hedley Pro cannot manage.

I have since sold off my Hadley Large and the 445. I love all the bags but felt guilty having bags that I do not use. The Hadley Large was sold to pay for the Eventer. The 445 was sold because when filled was very heavy and difficult to manage due to its dimensions.

Note that the leather trim on the Large is darker than the Eventer. BUT what I also liked about the Eventer was the lack of "Billingham" motif on the top cover. So it does not shout "come rob me!" of my expensive camera bag.

The Billingham 445
