This Viceroy (I think) landed on the Butterfly Bush in front of me.
By the looks of the wings which have big chunks out of both of them, it's led a rough life?

I was shooting butterflies last weekend when I noticed one of my tiger swallowtails thrashing on the ground. I thought he was just dying until I looked closer. There was a big hornet on his wing, crawling closer to his body and tearing off chunks of wing as he went. Luckily, the butterfly shook him off before he got there. It would have made a great shot I guess, but I was WAY to horrified to think of grabbing the camera! Eryn

Aug 18, 2006 10:09 | #7 I bet I know how that happened! I'd thought it might have been done by a bird, but that makes better sense. I don't think birds would pick on these as they look like Monarchs, which are supposed to taste bad. (Anyone have first hand experience with that?) ...and both have super nice bokeh. The 70-200 have become my favorite nature "Walk around" lens. Some other examples: FrankC - 20D, RAW, Manual everything...
