Hello there, it is me again. Okay I have got the mula ($) and want to by my Canon Rebel XT. But the thing is there are so many places on the web, that I am afraid I am going to get ripped off. For example, this company in NY (bestcameras.com). I can get it for 599.00 with 18-55 lense, card reader, and memory card (512mb). But when I asked about the manufactuer's warranty they said there wasn't any. Only US warranty with their company. Something about the camera being made in Taiwan. So this just confuses me. Do any of you suggest any reputable websites. Max I want to spend $800.00, this should include a 18-55mm lense, a memory card, and card reader. Any help asap would be greatly appreciated. Please. Thank you.:cry:

I've bought from B&H and Adorama. I've never had the "up-sell" from either. The up-sell is when someone calls you and tries to convince you that you need additional items. I think the great majority on this forum will agree that B&H is first-rate.

[Edit]: Bestcameras.com is in the UK? I don't know about UK vendors - sorry.

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.

I just bought a back-up XT body from B&H Photovidea. It's available for $634.00 if you type psaug into the search box. Comes with the US warranty and is a bonafide trustworthy establishment. You might have to pay a wee bit more for the body with the kit lens, but I've had such good experiences with B&H, I can't imagine going elsewhere.

The one you are talking about must be an import model. A pain if you need service in the future.
A card reader is readily available, even in Radio Shack, for around twenty bucks.
Memory cards tend to be on sale at various places from time to time.
You also want to be sure you are getting the actual Canon package - with the software, the battery, the battery charger, etc. B&H has this.

B&H, Adorama, Newegg. $729 w/kit lens @ Newegg. Newegg also has some good deals on CF cards. I picked up a 1gig 80x Ridata card for about $25.

Adorama.com and
bhphotovideo.com are both reputable online retailers with similar pricing. They aren't the only good ones though, just the first that come to mind.

Bestcameras.com has a horrible reputation, and from what I've read about them they deserve it. They use hard sell, bait & switch tactics, which you already noticed. They like to wait till peopl have ordered online, and then call them at home and tell them what a mistake it is to order that "imported" version and that you really should upgrade to this or that.

As stated in previous posts, sounds like the NY retailer is trying to sell you a gray market camera. Most of these are more trouble then they are worth. The money you save in buying it could end up costing you in frustration.

I've heard good things about B&H and Adorama (but sadly I've got no discretionary funds to devote to new camera stuff right now) :(

I bought mine from Dell when there were some stackable discounts and coupon codes floating around on the net.

slickdeals.net has this:
Canon Rebel XT 18-55mm Kit $799 - $150 coupon X24P$LTH$XXZ1Q - 5% Discover = $616

Also, they have free shipping.

the link to the offer on slickdeals is here (external link)

Check www.resellerratings.com (external link) and http://www.ripoffreport.com/ (external link) before making an on-line purchase from any store. We have people with very few posts that state on this forum that bestpricecameras.com is a good place to shop when clearly it is a scam.

If anyone other than perhaps a major well-known reseller such as Dell has equipment on sale for well below the price of B&H, Adorama, Newegg (and a few others) then it is most likely a scam. Another site I like to use to guide my buying decision is http://donwiss.com/pictures/BrooklynStores/ (external link) . Here's his picture of bestpricecameras:

http://donwiss.com …/BrooklynStores/h0218.htm (external link)

and in contrast, here is a picture of the B&H warehouse (not their store):

It's big enough that when they had a fire last year it made international news.

i bought mine from ebay but it took me several days to find a good one. it cost me $699 total and included a 512mb cf card. it looks brand new, everything included, manuals and sw are still sealed.

highly recommended is, yup, B&H. not the cheapest but VERY reliable. I've bought a lot of my photography equipment needs from them.

good luck!
