I contacted Schneider in Germany to find out the authenticity of the B+W filters at www.maxsaver.net (external link). They are quite cheap relative to B&H. I just got an email from Schneider confirming that they are authentic. I placed an order.

I was really worried so I tracked down Schneider USA and then Schneider Germany, just to make sure they were legit. They have some items on their website that are certainly not, so made me wonder.

that alone would STILL make me cautious about buying from them. Shady business practices are a sign of the company as a whole.

Yeah, but it is Hong Kong. If you have ever been there you would know what I mean. If I was interested in Louis Vuitton handbags I would chase them down also.

I got all my BW from there over the last 2 years. All good. I even got a non-genuine "Canon lens cap" to see how good it was.

I am quite confident with the B+W filters as they checked out. I think that as with everything from Hong Kong it never hurts to take that extra step.

Just out of curiosity, what would keep a company from buying a stock of B+W filters (say 20) and then a stock of knock offs (say 60) and only 1 of 4 is real then? Then B+W could say "yes we supply them with filters" and would never know how filters many they actually sell.

I guess I just never underestimate the "shadiness" of a company that is willing to sell other items that aren't authentic.

You are probably fine though. My mind just gets whirling with things like this and I am one of those people that is always extra (probably over cautious.)

I think that if they could and were making knock offs of the filters they would probalby just sell all of the as knockoffs. More money. Why bother buying if you can make good knockoffs.

Because that way, you could get Schneider to verify that you were a legitimate B&W dealer.
BTW, as I indicated on the previous thread on this topic, I e-mailed Schneider long before you did and could not get any kind of response. Congratulation on your success with a response.
