After reading the sticky and several posts, I know I need a slim, multi-coated, quality CP filter. Also that I do need one. BTW, it is for my soon-to-arrive 17-40 f/4 L :D

I have narrowed the election to the following:

1. B+W Multi-Coated (MC) Slim $ 164.95 B+W (external link)
2. B+W Kaeseman Slim $ 175 Kaesaman (external link)
3. Heliopan Multi-Coated (SH-PMC) Slim $ 178 Heliopan (external link)
4. Hoya CP/UV Comb (HMC) Multi-Coated - Ultra Thin $ 172.50 Hoya Ultra Thin (external link) (just for completeness)
5. Hoya CPolarizer (S-HMC) Super Multi-Coated - Thin $ 172.50 Hoya Thin (external link)

All are from B&H (links included if required), non-threaded front (Heliopan does not include cap), Schott glass, multicoated (except for Kaesaman although it is encased).

Comments: a) the obvious choice should have been the B+W. However, it is not the MRC as recommended in posts and sticky and, b) the Hoya Ultra Thin is a CP/UV combo that could mean greater light falloff (even if B&H specifies the same 1.3 f-stop as the rest).

TIA.

Julio.

Maxsaver.net sells the B+W 77mm Slim MRC Kaeseman for only $123. I purchased one for my 17-40mm from them and have no complaints.

Was it shipped to Australia? Is it original? The case looks a bit different to what I've seen in other sites.

Thanks,.

I have the HOYA (SHMC) and SIGMA (EX DG) and find I use the Sigma mos of the time. Cant say one is better than the other I just like the Sigma over the Hoya becasue the Hoya can sometime feel to thin to grip (when I have gloves on)

Julio _ I have the slim type Hoya Pro1 Digital CP, practically the same specs as the Super Pro1 except is designed for digital although they all work with Digital Cameras. Its does have the front threads so the Canon lens cap works fine attached to it. I've gotten some outstanding results with it even when using on the EF-S 10-22mm without vignetting at 10mm.

I just bought the 17-40 L today & I've been having so much fun this lens. I was looking for a ultra wide, was a toss up between sigma 12-24 & the 17-40. MAN! I'm glad I got this lens. I hope you like it as much as I do. Tack sharp too. Sorry I had to tell someone

I haven't received it yet - it is stuck in customs. So your comment is more than welcome. It seems I did the right thing when buying it.

Thanks for sharing your joy.

EDIT: with all the L's you've got to compare, it must be a magnificent lens.
