.... not a "lense."

I don't mean to be picky, but I have seen this spelling many times lately, from a variety of members from predominantly English-speaking countries. This is one word we should be able to spell, eh? ;)

It's "lens." There is no E on the end of the word.

Well 'centre' is the correct English spelling.

It depends on what side on the pond you are on. I was a military brat and several things are not spelt the same. I am one of the worst at spelling. So it is not a biggy to me. LOL!

Why do Americans always think that their way of spelling is "the right way" and that the whole world should follow in their footsteps?

Admittedly there are those of us who are slightly challenged when it comes to spelling words... BUT, the Brits/Aussies/Kiwis could say that our American friends spell and speak funny -- considering their original descendants arrived on the Mayflower. Could the trip across the Atlantic have caused them to lose their sense of British-ness (if there is such a word?)

English is also a second language to a whole heap of us on the forum -- after all, this is an international forum, founded by a Finn.

Btw, on-line dictionaries include "lense" which is considered a noun, describing it as: "a transparent optical device used to converge or diverge transmitted light and to form images"

John;)

Believe... Work hard... and it will happen!

Both lens and lense are listed in my dictionary, modern usage does seem to lean more to lens though.

I'm not a philologist but the OED which is the definative catalogue of the English language contains 'lense', some of the concise versions however don't include it (including the free online version http://www.askoxford.com (external link)). Take from this fact what you will but it seems that the most common spelling would be 'lens'.

Yes.

We periodically get someone taking off with this rant. :{)#

If you really want to be a nit-picker, this thread has absolutely nothing to tie it to EOS Cameras, so belongs in General Chat, rather than EOS Cameras.

Tyre or tire, liter or litre. I always found my VW manual interesting.
