Lovely shot Dimitri - but like Fee said it is hard to tell simply from the head. Any shots of the whole bird?

Very well composed portrait Dimitri. The larger version is even better!

Nice photo Dimitri! As others have said, it is difficult to positively ID this bird without seeing the entire body. Size would be some help, but then it still could be a Red-tail hawk, especially with the different morphs of each species.

Nevertheless, well done - excellent image!

That would be a Red-Tailed Hawk. Note the prominent "belly band". It's a dead giveaway!.

One of the best close up raptor shots I have ever seen.....simply put....SUPERB!! mate....

Having said that and not knowing you raptors very well, I don't believe this is the ferruginous hawk unless they vary in colour, from what I know the ferruginous hawk is lighter in colour under the beak on the throat. Also the beak should be Jet black and the cere would be brighter yellow/orange.

However there are several different colour morphs see here http://www.mbr-pwrc.usgs.gov/Infocenter/i3480id.html (external link)

Having rambled on enough, whether it is or isn't you have shown this bird of so perfectly.
