Hi Everyone

I use Smugmug and up until 2 days ago, I was uploading my pictures (jpeg) with it's highest resolution. As you know that meant a big file and take a very very long time to upload. I normally have to breakup the upload by 3-6 sessions as it's too big for one go.
I noticed in Smugmug, it shows the size of the picture that was uploaded but also the reduced size (800x400). I would think that would be the largest size accepted.
Two days ago I had over 1000 pics taken from my month long European trip. I resized all in batch (800x400)and uploaded. Fraction of the time :-)

Question, why would you want to upload your pics with it's highest resolution when smugmug resizes them?

Many Thanks
Pat

I think smugmug only resizes the preview and keeps the orignal uploaded file. If you are using smugmug to sell photos or order prints, then uploading images at their highest resolution will ensure the highest quality prints, especially for enlargements. For example a 4x6 print typically requires 1200 x1800 resolution image (@300dpi)

If you're only using smugmug only as a web gallery I don't think it matters if you resize them before.

Smugmug resizes your uploaded pictures to save bandwidth. However, people can still see your original size (highest resolution) if they click on O. On sizes you will see S, M, L and O, which stands for small, medium, large and original. I think the default is medium. Unless you sell (or distribute to family or friends) high resoluiton prints, there is no reason to upload the original size. I always resize the pictures to 800 x 600 before uploading.
