August 22, 2006
The autumn 2006 will be one hot season; after Sony-Minolta and Nikon, which launch general public numerical reflex cameras 10 mégapixels, it is with the turn of Gun to renovate its EOS 350D with a new version, baptized EOS 370D or Rebel Xti (according to countries') and which will be marketed in September.

Once more, the rumour will have been stronger than the secrecy. At three days of the official advertisement of its innovations of the autumn, Canon comes to be made cut the here under the foot by the Net surfers who, while seeking well, ended up unearthing the photographs and the characteristics of the new general public reflex camera of the mark.

In a few days, the successor of the 350D will thus officially be revealed. The 370D, alias Xti, will take again same construction overall, but in more cheap as regards the case, while crossing the bar of the 10 mégapixels.

The heart of the 370D will be new Cmos 10,1 Mpix, associated a processor Digic II.
The apparatus will resemble the 350D much but will profit from a screen LCD 2,5"with posting improved of the parameters and a sensor AF working on nine beaches.

The rumour speaks about a dust-protecting system, but let us not be certain we.
Not more than we do not have serious infos on the price, the effective date of marketing, nor on becoming to it current 350D.

How will the Canon range be redefined in the months to come?

- one can imagine that the sensor x1,6 perdure in the form of a 350D become 3500D and positioned at the price of Nikon D50;
- that the 30D finishes its career nicely, "badly sitted" between the 10 Mpix of the 370D and the large sensor of the 5D;
- but also that the very expensive 5D with sensor 24x36 goes down on the level from price from very aggressive Nikon D200, free to repair itself in EOS 50D...

The re-entry will be hot, but the weeks preceding Christmas will be it more still. Logic when one saity that progression of the market of the reflex cameras flirte with a figure which one had seldom known: more than 60%!

Here are as regards the rumeurrs and the assumptions. Now remain to await the official infos...!

Looks promising. I know a lot of current 350D owners will be happy. I can just see the used marked being flooded with 300Ds and 350Ds for sale. Still can't wait to see if the "Ultimate" 1D is actually coming out.

except for that screen. Using my uncles E-500 with a single screen was sickening. We should be using the LCD less, not more!

Agree - I much prefer having two screens.

Mpixels aren't everything. There is still a space for a 30D successor, perhaps with slightly higher specs to compete with the D200 (weather sealing)

I know that, and you know that, but Joe Consumer often doesn't, particularly when Joe Salesman pushes megapixels as a major selling point.

The 30D was never any more than a short-term extension of the 20D lifespan and was a low-cost model to develop. It'll soldier on until the true 20D replacement in Q2 next year IMO. MP are not the sole measure of a camera and in all other respects the 30D will likely remain superior. After all, the 1D2n is only 8mp (until later this week though???)
