Hi,

Last year I took alot of photographs for student night outs using my 350D and onboard flash. I've since got a Sigma flash and so my usual techniques for getting decent people photos in clubs aren't as useful anymore. What settings do all you guys use? I like to show a bit of atmosphere, make the people pop a bit more- perhaps a bit of motion in the background but the subject should be sharp. What kind of settings should I go about using? Would a diffuser for my flash help? Or a piece of white card tied on to bounce?

Any advice would be much appreciated.
Adam

edit: mods- I'm not sure if this belongs in 'cornering the pros', if so please move it.

I do a lot of club photography at a local club here in Toronto. You definately would need a flash, I use a 430ex.

I use a 20D with a 17-40mm as my main lens.

My settings are usually: Manual, iso400, f4.0 (Lowest it can go), and shutter speed anywhere from 1/15 to 1/3. It depends on the scene but you want to have it long enough to expose the background and give it some nice color. A black background is kind of dull. Heres a few samples of what I'm talking about:

Cheers for the info kevin.

Mizuno: that work is very impressive, sure there's a fair amount of PP on some of the images too. Wonder what kind of set up she's using?

Yeah I'd love to know too, there are some wicked shots on that site! [of course when you photographing beautiful/famous people your bound to get something half decent!]
