312mm, 1/400 sec, f/8, 400iso, Sigma 1.4 TC.
Taken from over 400', and 50% cropped. Slight back focus due to user (me).
Canons 1.4 TC will work, I don't know about the 2x.

2x TC will work, but it'll be a MF lens on anything but a 1 series camera, because it'll be f/8.

These were taken at Andrews Lake in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado. First is full frame reduced to 800x800 pixels, the second a 100% crop. 300mm, 1/800 @ f/4, ISO 200.

The following was taken with the Sigma 1.4x TC attached to the 100-300. This fellow hovered for a few seconds, but it was tough to focus on it. Again, taken at Andrews Lake, 368mm, 1/800 @ f/6.3, ISO 400. First is full-frame reduced to 800x800, the second a 100% crop.

Here's another with the 1.4x Sigma TC. Wide open (f/5.6), 1/400, ISO 800. First is full-frame reduced to 800 px wide, second 100% crop.
