Hi all,

I just got my Canon G1 this week and love it!

I have a question about the RAW files. After I download them to my hard drvie from the camera using Zoombrowser, do I have to use Zoombrowser to access them in order to change them into TIFF or whatever format?

I can't seem to acquire the RAW files on my hard drive into Photoshop. I've heard it's got something to do with Zoombrowser hiding the thm files or something....

If this is true, is there another program that I can use to download the RAW files to my harddrive so that I can acquire them later in PS6?

Thanks!

Right, the Canon TWAIN driver requires the THM files (tiny JPEGs) to work.

To download raw files, including the THM companion files, you can use a card reader or the downloader from http://www.breezesys.co.uk/ (external link). There is another downloader which I haven't tried.

You can also install Canon's latest drivers for the camera (vers 3.61) from http://www.powershot.com/ (external link). This package includes a RAW converter that doesn't need THM files. The package also includes a new TWAIN driver. Many people just install the raw converter. I installed both and haven't had any trouble.

YARC (look at other threads in this forum) I think can work without the THM files, but I'm not sure.

Other possibilities include Cam4You. I haven't kept up with that program, but I know it's being developed.

Deep down, anything that converts RAW files depends on software from Canon.

Just a few weeks ago, RAW files were a real pain to use because there was almost no software to deal with them. Now there are a lot of really good programs. I'm sure others will post about their favorites.
