Was wondering about defining abstract photography and how does abstract differ from Macro and can ya post a few pix or links?

I think that coming up with a mutually agreeable definition of this from a large group of photographers will be almost impossible. I don't feel that macro photography in its basic sense falls into this category. Macro is just taking things up very close. Perhaps if you start to get so close that things are unidentifiable then maybe. To me abstract would be doing things that are way off the chart of what we would call normal. What is normal to be could be abstract to you. That's the thing I love about photography, it is totally subjective in the eye of the beholder. I wouldn't say that I have anything that falls into my definition of abstract photography so I can't post anything.

This should be an interesting discussion.

I agree - the word needs definition as to your understanding of how it applies to the photographic medium.

A flower sticking up out of the snow is an abstraction to me.
Dragging the shutter can produce an abstract image of motion.

Abstract and obscure are related to a degree.

If this thread develops you are going to get more esoteric responses than you ever hoped for. I generally see this kind of question in mid-winter when people are suffering from cabin fever.
