Had an Opportunity to shoot the recent Lunar Eclipse Sequence on 11-8-03 with the Pro90IS, hand held (tripod not available), full 10X Telephoto, full digital interpolation(4X), ISO 100-200, Shutter Priority at 1\500th to 1 Second Exposures!

Sequence came out interesting, but in the future will be attempting to do an Eclipse shoot with a Bausch & Lomb 8" Schmidt-Cassegrain 2110mm auto-track telescope for improved image quality captures!

Hi Ted.
I love any of the moon shots and some more then others, but for anyone to stay so long to take all these shots on that particular night , well they have to be admired.
you took them from 7pm to 10 41pm :eyes
(and then fell down in a heap ??? )
must have been beautiful watching it all complete before your very eyes.
your hands must have been so stiff next day seeing as the camera was hand held all the time.

thanks for sharing them

and last shot ... 10.41pm :eyes

Hello Marie!

Wow, thanks for the synopsis of my evenings events, it really went just about the way you described (LOL) !! It was tiring, but I did get some support from the heliport steel deck and a towel with the camera jammed down to cushion the wind shears and wave\facility movements! Next time I'll remember my tripod and magical weather vodoo to make conditions a little more bearable!

Yes, some of my guestbook entrys are "interesting", but I can't say much. When I look back to review some of my comments and feedback, I'm embarrassed between what I wanted to say and what I typed!

Great to be here again, was very busy moving and setting up house past 6 months! Like I said, maybe next Eclipse I'll have that 8 inch telescope mastered and can actually obtain some "Detail and Delineation" in my Lunar photos?!!

Thanks for Your kind comments,

Take Care,

Ted

Wow Ted, quite the series! As I'm sure you've discovered, it's not easy to get the right exposure to ideally capture the sequence and beauty of totality from beginning to end! Nevertheless, you did a pretty darn good job. Way to go! Too bad eclipses like this one don't come along very often so you can practice and prepare 1st! And then there's the luck of good weather - or not.

That 8" SCT you're getting will be quite the scope. You should have some fun with that. If this is the first you're venturing into this area, be prepared to Not get "stellar" results 1st time out. I at least, and many first timers take awhile to become familiar with the quirks of our setup, scope and camera. Here's a web site for digital astrophotographers.

Enjoy. - and watch out, - it can be addicting.
