Late in the evening last week, just as the sun was going down, I was up on the hill still hoping a train would show up before the light went completely away. This guy came along to help me out.

That was nice of the big yellow engine to drag his little red friend along too.

Yeah, Kinda like the "Little Engine That Could show up before sundown." :)
I was actually trying to see what I could do with a Zeiss Flektogon 35mm manual focus lens attached to my 10D.

Nice photo!
It's also nice to see one of those old SD40's out on the road. I hope it stays down Vegas way.;)

Thanks TrainRider. :D I suspect this one was on its way to Los Angeles. This shot was taken at about 15 miles South of Vegas, and the train was headed South.
This one on the other hand, was shot the day after, & was on the same set of tracks, but on the South side of the mountain heading North.

gosh, the place looks so open and deserted Bruce
lovely unusual shots of the train
I bet the driver really liked seeing you there, a sight for human eyes after rumbling through the wide open spaces
must have been hot
I wonder did he honk his horn to salute you

Thanks Marie, He DID blow his horn when he saw me, probably to warn me away, as I was very close to the track for the first image.
It was hot on both days.
It's pretty wide open out here. ;)

I'm not normally a big fan of train shots but there is something very good about this one. The hill in the background and the curve of the track are very pleasing. Nice one.

Damn, I'd probably go crazy if I had landscape like that to shoot trains with. Not too many decent places to shoot here in Michigan. And if there is, you're usually trespassing on someone's land. Looks like out there you've got wide expanses of land where you could easily find some remote spots to shoot without bothering anyone's land.

Thanks Alan, I appreciate that. :D
JT, Yeah, There are a lot of open areas in the desert that these trains run through. ;)
