What Tim said was correct. The face is quite underexposed. If you have a look at the histogram however, you will see that it shows overexposure, as the background is blown out.
If you HAD used fill flash, it would have created a much more even illumination between the subject and background. Alternatively, bounce some light back onto her face with a reflector. Either would have worked well.
Below is my edit. Levels for contrast, curves for brightness, and USM.
Her facial features are still a little dark. The above methods would help capture it more accurately.
