After agreeing a price and sending payment via paypal for a lens from a POTN member, this transaction was reversed and he refunded the payment immediately

Apparently he was recieving offers as I made the payment, this was unknown to me.

I ain't a happy chappy

Will I incurr any Paypal fees for this transaction ?

Ebay was not involved, this was a straight payment into his Paypal account.

Thanks

not if he refunded it, if he sent you the same amount back as a seperate transaction, then potentially yes

Fees are taken out of the Seller's proceeds when the transaction completes, you pay $100, he sees $97 approximately.

I've had a similar situation not too long ago. I got 100% of my money back but my paypal account was flagged with unauthorized transaction. Apparently the stupid seller was mistakenly reporting that while he was trying to refund my money. No monetary loss, just a headache. I had to call paypal 3-4 times to remove that. I hate that darn seller.

Sorry Scottie, I think I may have bought the lens. In ALL TRUTH, I had no idea he was negotiating with someone else. :(

You are at no fault whatsoever so I see no need for you to apologise.

He simply shouldn't have sent me his Paypal account details for payment whilst still negotiating with others.

He shouldn't be trading on this site in such a manner and I have requested admin look into his dealings.

Enjoy your lens my friend :)

I had exactly the same thing happen to me, but I had bought two items from the person and he only shipped one, so I had to get a refund. Now the problem was that the way Paypal works it will not accept a partial refund, it is either gets a full refund or nothing at all. Fine so the seller then sent me the money as a payment, well paypall then proceeded to take 3% out of that payment, at which time I had to spend almost two days on the phone to get it straightened out, which eventually they did. Bottom line is look for the refund check that it is all there and if it is not argue like hell and do not give up, eventually they will relent.

On a side note but in the same general area, lately I have seen several people charging paypal fees on transactions here at the 4% level, in effect making a little extra money on the side if the sale which irks me to no end. It is not a matter od the extra 1% but the fact that they are trying to convince people that is the correct fee like most of us are not up on this.

It happened to me too. The seller sent me his paypal address but I didn't reply until about 4-5 hrs later in which he thought I wasn't interested and sold to another buyer. Upon checking my PM and without confirmed, I sent the payment.

He refund full amount and I wasn't charge a Paypal fee.

If you see that, you should report that.

If you send through paypal e-check you can avoid the 3%.
