I took this in Hong Kong during a business trip and I would like to know what it is. The tail is a bit longer than it shows in the photo. Thanks for the help.

My eyes see well enough, and the camera is capable enough, now if they would just work together.

That's one bird I have never seen. The patterns and colour look good. Black hood, blue wings, white plumage and black and white tail, it's a gorgeous bird. Feel sorry for the little chick though. Nice shot Jack showing good detail, well done.

Yep, I think it is. I am pretty sure it was taking it out of a nest in the tree. There were some other birds that I'm pretty sure were not fond of it being there. The noise in the tree is what caught my attention.

Thanks Gary for the comments. I wish I could have gotten the rest of it's tail also. It was maybe another 4-6 inches longer than what I got in the photo.

Any chance this bird could be an Oriental Magpie Robin?

By the way, wonderful shot.

looks to be a red-billed blue magpie. I was first thinking some sort of jay by the markings on the tail, but did some searching around.

I'd say you are right, a Red-billed blue magpie it is. I guess it just takes talent to find the bird types, and practice I suppose. I couldn't find anything close when I looked. Thank you very much.
