I am having a hard time finding a studio to rent. Does anyone know where I would start this process? I am in San Diego.

Try Craig's List under Commercial Properties, or Artists. Also, your local yellow pages may have listings for Studios for Hire. Finally, look for community cooperatives for artists. They often rent out studio space.
