Had my 350D for about a year now and still loving it. Tempted with the 10Mp image size, but would do the same as the rest and invest in a 5D/30D/40D or what ever version there on when I'm finally able to upgrade.

Only ones I can see replacing their Rebel XT with a Rebel XTi are female photographers who what a dSLR camera but not the weight of the 30D or 20D. Yup bad argument but I think that is about it. Its like how many people upgraded from a Rebel to a Rebel XT? Not many, most bought the 20D.

Geez that's a very embarrassing statement.

I upgraded from the Digtal Rebel to the XT not because I'm woman, I'm not...the XT was just a better camera...same reason I'm going to the XTi...it's just a better camera.

I've been shooting for 30 years and was a photographer in NYC for many years. Shot with Nikons, Sinars and Hassies. The camera really doesn't make the photographer.

There were many photographers with better equipment than I that couldn't shoot their way out of a paper bag.

Give me a 30D and an XTi and I'll shoot the same...give a mediocre photographer the 30D and they'll shoot mediocre shots...though more might be in focus!

Not me. Although the larger LCD and sensor cleaning features are attractive. The extra 2 MP I really could care less about. I've had my Rebel XT for about a year and I'm still learning, so I'll continue to shoot with it for the next two years or so, then upgrade to whatever the equivalent of the 30D or 5D is at that point.

Oddly enough, the fact that the 5D is a full frame sensor is actually less appealing to me. I know it has all kinds of advantages over the 1.6x CMOS in terms of noise and such, but it'll make even reasonably telephoto lenses that are fast VERY expensive. At least right now I can get a sharp EFL 320mm f/2.8 lens for under $800 (Sigma 70-200 f/2.8). Just look at what it costs for a real 300mm f/2.8... Oh well, I'll probably do it eventually in the interest of "progress" :p

thanks, have missed that. just did not do my home work properly..

I reasoned wrongly that since recently published 30D was kept in 8 megapixels and was not that much of an upgrade from 20D, current (then) tree digit series would have a bit more mileage left that what we have now witnessed.

give me Commodore 64 from 1980's and I write better programs with it than you with latest MacBook Pro from Apple.

No prob. I don't usually go in there. I tend to even forget it exists. I can't afford anything anyway...no sense wishing for it! :) :p

Me too...the XTi is a better value for ME than the 30D.

Not sure what you mean?

To be honest, I don't see an awful lot of point in upgrading from the XT to the XTi. If I get going on wedding photography (which I intend to) then initially I will get a second XT as backup but after that I'll either be heading toward a 5D or toward the full-frame 1D.

The difference seems to be there are a few more beginner modes on the XTi which make no difference to me. The anti-dust sensor seems a useful feature but I'd like to see this user-activatable instead of auto. Perhaps this is a first step toward in body IS? I don't feel the anti-dust feature is worth buying a new camera. Similarly the 10mp doesn't seem to be to be worth an awful lot of attention. 8mp will do weddings just fine. 6mp does weddings just fine. What Canon has done is to tweak the XT into the XTi about as much as they tweaked the 20D into the 30D.

I think I will wait for a good price on a 5D before I upgrade. Until then I will keep getting better glass. I think Dell just had an incredible price on them, but the 100 person max was too fast for me to take advantage of it.

but typical wedding situations are lowlight, which need fast lenses....the AF system w/ 2.8 or faster lenses is THE reason i would really consider swapping out my rebXT for the new version or 30D.

I'm still undecided on my next body upgrade, i'll just upgrade when the 350D can't do what i want and to be honest the 400D will have the same limitations as the 350D so it would be more of a sidestep than an upgrade. My next upgrade will either be the 5D (or replacement) if the gig shoots i've got lined up turn into anything or a 30D/40D with the crop factor advantage for the wildlife/sports that i enjoy taking pics of :)

propably nothing.. have tendency to read only every other word. just got impression your message was: "I was a pro, you kids cannot get there where I am, no matter how much money you burn to your equipment".
