I think it would be a total waste of money. I would not get 1 improved photo from a 400 vs. my 350. If I am going to upgrade I am going to wait for improvements that will actually help my photos. I would like to see IS or even higher ISO’s so camera shake becomes less important. Higher MP’s will also be important when they are substantial, i.e. 15-20 mp’s. I say save your money and wait for some REAL improvements.

so you never shoot @ wide aperatures? i must admit that i was ignorant in the differences between the AF systems (cross-type sensor sensitivity/accuracy when used with f/2.8 and below) between the 350D and 20D/30D and now 400D cameras. i've not used one of those, but i've gotten plenty of OOF pictures with my 350D which *may* have been ok w/ the more sophisticated AF system. how many more keepers? it's impossible to say.

but it's certainly given me some upgraditis... :)

I just upgraded my 300D to a 30D for the extra controls and feature that it offers. I looked at a 20D that was still in the box new, but decided that if I'm upgrading I might as well get the current model. I like to shoot wildlife and birds a lot, so the 1.6 crop factor is a plus. Adds to the effect of the Bigma :-)

For shooting Landscape the 400D might be a nice upgrade from the 300/350, but a 10-20 on the 30D will do the same thing for me.

It is nice to see the List price on the 400D come down. For an Entry Level DSLR Canon is now priced higher than the competition. A lot of people upgrading from Point And Shoot Cameras don't have a clue what to look for and just go with the cheepest available Upgrade. I know a couple of people that did just that :-( They didn't even ask me what one I would recomment. They like the pictures that I took on my DSLR so they wanted a DSLR too.

I do, and sometimes I get better results than other times. I seem to get better results wide open with my 50 prime than my tammy zoom. I guess I always thought it was the lens. I am not that up on whether the AF would really help me with some of those flower and bug type shots. I usually try to stop down a couple clicks with my tamron because I get better results.

Sorry if my post conveyed that...didn't mean it like that. Wish I was a better writer!

I was responding to cjm post that only women will upgrade from the XT to the XTi. I found it was inappropriate.

Also another way to look at upgrading with every new model: Think of it as a way of leasing the camera. My first Rebel cost me $400.00 after rebates, sold if for $400.00 and upgraded to the XT. Will sell my XT for $400. or less and upgrade to the XTi for about $400.

I couldn't agree more. I bought my Olympus 765 for £220 and sold it 5 months later for £190 to fund my 350D. £6 per month or £1.50 per week or even £0.20 pence per day! Not a bad price to pay for a camera. It's a lot cheaper than the films I used to buy.

Here's how the 400D will help my photos...
dust sensor cleaner - if i see a dust on my pic and i'm in the middle of a shoot, all i have to do is turn it off and on. 2 seconds lost. Without it, I have to remove the lens, blow air, check to see if dust is gone, blow air again if dust is still there.

big lcd - if my first shot is bad, with a bigger lcd i can review the pic or histogram and get an accurate picture of where i messed up.

10.2mp - it will improve my printed picture when i print at 13" x 19". it will be sharp.

SJK ... lol ... the improvements you want WILL NEVER arrive at the 400D because it is an entry-level dslr. However, the improvements you mentioned are already available in the Canon's higher line DSLR's like the 30D, 5D, and above.
My recommendation to you is to save more money and get the 5D...to improve your pictures.

8.2 is more than capable of doing 13x19. Heck, I turned a RAW file on my old 10D into 11x14 and that was 6megapixels.

And if you have a good lab with a RIP you can do MUCH bigger than that with 8.2 ;)

Sorry, the extra MP in the 400D just doesn't do it for me. Plus it's gonna feel like a toy, like the 350D, anyway.

Ah, the 1st new model not supported by my beloved RawShooter Premium. ...snif...

I'll be waiting for the 40D and the production release of Adobe Lightroom that supports the 40D.

So let's talk more about this new AF system. As I mentioned before, I wouldn't notice any difference in the AF since I don't have any fast lenses except the 1.8 which is horrible at focusing.

how many of you are NOT satisfied with the focusing on your XT? I have been more then happy with mine, noticed no problems. Except th e1.8 which everyone knows can not focus on 1 or 2 tries.
