Alrighty, i have upgraded from a 380ex to a 580ex (and very nice too)
Question is, seeing as the 380 is next to worthless secondhand, would it be useable if the 580 were attached to hotshoe either directly or via off-shoe cable and the 380ex connected with a PC cord cable & adapter as a tethered second flash? Presume manual flash settings maybe needed on the 580 (which I'm sure I could figure out eventually)
is this a silly idea?

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

Should work fine. Don't own a 380, but I think it doesn't have manual? In that case it will always emit a full flash. Apart from that, it should work fine.

thanks, will give it a go. Being secondary flash I should be able to move it miles away to adjust power. Have a workshop next week so be interesting to see what results
