So my buddy gave me a roll of film of some awsome pictures from a wedding but i don't want prints, i want the pictures on my computer. What is the best service out there to digitize this roll of film to get digital images at really high quality? I know film can be scanned at high quality so where do i get this done? I dont want a cheap 1024x768 scan like at the local corner Rite-Aid. Oh and i don't want to pay $30 to develop one roll of film, so i need it done cheap!

You need to find a service that offers drum scanning which is probably the best possible quality right now. If you know someone with a dedicated film scanner that would come in pretty close too. I have always found that film scans off of a flatbed scanner, even with the film attachment, to be at the bottom of the options available out there right now. The quality level that you choose will likely depend on what you want to do with the images, which you haven't clearly stated here.

I have the Nikon Super COOLSCAN 9000 ED Film Scanner (external link) and it does a great job of scanning everything up to 120/220 format films but is expensive.

Good quality scanning is not found very cheap so your want to have great quality and a very minimal expense might take some looking around.

I have had the Walmarts of the world do some scans on some quick film work that I had shot for fun. Never again. The quality was real bad and I have since rescanned them on my new scanner and they came out better.
I would suggest that you just call around and ask what the various companies have for scanning capability and what they charge. Try your local camera club to see if they have anyone that does this on the side.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

Hmm, you want very high quality for less than $30. Get what you pay for? :) If it was 100 or 200 speed film you'll get quite good scans off of the 4x6 prints I'm assuming your friend has. If you can find a place to scan the negatives at 3200 dpi that will yeild about the same size as 5D images - 13 MP

Wow, i never realized how expensive film shooting is. $30 to get scans of 24 pictures seems pretty ridiculous when i shoot 10 times that in 1 hour sometimes with my 20D. Good thing i don't shoot film, i would go broke. I don't need professional quality scans of the pictures but i also don't want regular scans on a flat bed where you get dust in the picture and they look like they are from 1990. I just want something of decent quality that i wont despise every time i look at the quality. The pictures weren't that great!!
