Re-Composing Question

Hello
Strictly an amateur and would like your take on this.
I have seleced on my 350D the centre focus spot. When subject is not in the centre, I would auto focus on the subject, keep shutter half way pressed, rep-compose (move camera slightly away from subject) and shot.
Is this the best way? Would off centre subject be better if I switched to the right or left focus spot depending on position?
What is the best way as sometimes the subject is not as sharp as I would've hope.

Focus-recompose works fine unless you have a very narrow depth of field. In that case an off-centre focus point can be best. Really the best answer is to just try it and see what works for you

Why to bother? You have more then one af point with reason. And obviously you just found that reason
Seriously... I never understood why would anyone limit himself to center af point only. Ok sometimes there are conditions when center af points work better, but in 90% of time conditions are not like that. Personally I'm happy to use all 45 af points of my 1d... even (or better to say: especially) for fast sport action.
