With the 400D seemingly being sold everywhere for £650 body and £720 kit I cannot see it having much effect on the price of the 350D, they are in different price bands.

I was hoping that the new model would lead to the 30D dropping a bit, but at only £100 difference between them that is very unlikely now until 350D stocks sell out and the 400D moves to replace its price point.

Michael.

Comments, bribes, criticism, bribes, irrelevant anecdotes, and bribes always welcome.
EXIF is available inside all my photos, though bribes are still recommended anyway.

TBH, the 350D is a very good camera in its own right, so I wouldn't be surprised if it continues to sell well (until stocks run out). After all, unlike the 300D, which had some major flaws, all the features the 400D adds are nice, but not necessary (unlike the 300D lacking FEC and mirror lockup).

Considering there is a significant price difference as well as spec difference, I don't really see these two cameras competing directly anyway.

Are they definitely ending the 350D production for the 400D or will they sell both alongside each other?

Michael.

I disagree. The 400D is not marketed to compete with the 30D so I can't see how the 30D price would drop any if the 400D price is already so close to it.

The 400D is a replacement / upgrade to the 350D and so the 350D price will drop when the 400D comes in at a realistic price. Since no-one has the 400D in stock they are guessing at prices or quoting the MSRP - and if anyone pre-orders at those prices more fool them.

If in doubt, I shut up...

Gear: 40D, 12-24mm AT-X Pro, 17-85mm, Sigma 150mm Macro Sigma 100-300 F4, 550EX, other stuff that probably helps me on my way.
