I took my pictures RAW format today for the first time and my computer will not read it. I am uploading them right off my canon camera and it just does not recognize that there are any pictures there. My computer says that my camera is busy as well as not recognizing the pictures. They are on my card, because I can preview them.

I tried putting it into my compact flash card adapter thing and it did not read it either. I really want to get my pictures on my computer, can anyone help me.

What OS are you running? What (if any) Canon software did you install? Directly connecting the camera to a PC will not get you all your pictures unless you have Canon's software installed, even though it'll show up as a device under "My Computer". I always pull mine right off the CF card, there's usually a folder called DCIM or some such, and then a folder inside of that called Canonxxx where xxx is the 100's of your current capture names. I hope that helps a little bit.

Thank you and I installed the canon software. I tried uploading them from thr zoom browser and got them to work last night, but I do not like that program. I like the adobe reader program, but it just does not read it. That should help me.

Thank you for checking out my gallery. I am glad you liked it. THANKS!

Eh, yeah... the Zoom Browser program is functional, but not really that great. Also, thanks for the compliment! :-)

I thought the same thing when I first tried to download RAW images.
I was ready to say to hell with raw until I figured out how to use the software.
It's not as hard as I thought it was.

A card reader and a simple program like Downloader should do it fine. If you are running XP there is a download that allows you to look at raw images in explorer. You can download them with a click and drag also.

Sorry for the bad form. That MS viewer is available here (external link).

I can preview the raw images and I got them uploaded into my computer through the zoom browser. Now I can not upload them into Photoshop CS2. It tells me it is an invalid file. My boyfriend gave me a dvd of his pictures that are in RAW format and I can upload them into photoshop, just not mine. I tried to save all my pics on DVD and then left click, open in photoshop and it does not work. I am getting frustraited. I almost want to not shoot anything in RAW again. Grrrrrr. I am not sure what to do from here

You could try downloading

http://picasa.google.com (external link)

I just looked it up and it's supposed to support RAW format. I haven't used it since it doesn't support mac, but it's supposed to be a great program. Maybe it would solve your prob. It's free too.

You need to download the latest version of Adobe Camera RAW (ACR). It currently is version 3.4. Make sure you foolow the directions exactly.

In2Photos is correct, and the reason behind it, in case you are curious, is that the RAW format, and even the .CR2 format is not universally the same. Adobe puts out new versions of thier RAW interpreter so that it can understand new RAW formats from different cameras (including even newer models of, say, Canon that the last version would not recognize). :-)

You did follow the directions exactly, right? The plug-in must be installed in a specific directory. Instructions on the Adobe website.
