Hi Les
I say to myself if I had a 1ds mk11 then I could take shots like that.
But I'm sure that my 10d in your hands would perform well.
Some folk stumble on the odd good shot but your work is far too consistant to fall into that category.
Bye the way we lived in Stockton on Tees for 7 years so know your area fairly well.
Regards
Paul

Yeah it's not the camera but the person using it....and from what I have seen you can certainly use it. It's a very nice shot with great colours......
I have been dying to ask but being new to the forum didn't want to sound cheeky, I only ask because I want to learn, so please excuse my ignorance......BUT.
You say you focused 2/3 of the way down the pier, using your 17-40 at 17mm and f18 I'd have thought focusing at 2 1/2 feet or even at 40mm focusing at about 12 feet as per hyper focal distance would have everything sharp OR am I wrong or is/was there another reason for the 2/3rds down the pier?
Hope you don't mind my question...but if ya don't ask ya don't learn.
Thanks.
Ken.

Hi Ken, No, I don't mind the question at all, and yes you are correct, at F18, almost everything would be in focus if you focussed at around 12 ft, so it's just force of habit I guess, covering all the options, with the 1DS MKII you can quickly shift the focus point to just about anywhere in the scene, by focussing 2/3 rds of the way down the pier, I can GUARANTEE everything will be in focus.
