I haven't got a clue what the dragon fly is, and I'm not entirely sure about the butterfly either, but think it's a Speckled Wood - Pararge Aegeria tircis

Could be the rare Southern Migrant Hawker (male) Aeshna affinis. There is only one definite sighting (1952, Kent)for Britain so probably isnt!
the absence of any yellow markings on the abdomen do point to this species unless I am not looking properly in my book - may be back with a differnt ID soon! Common Hawker male has yellow spots on abdomen but I don't see those on your shot. the Azure Hawker has never been seen outside of Scotland.
Where was this taken - don't say Italy!

Speckled Wood is right.

My Dragonfly book is out of date, there has been a sighting in Sussex:

Thanks, I thought it might be the Migrant Hawker as the golf tee shape just behind the wings is more yellow/green than blue thought its dificult to see in this photo.

It was taken near Glastonbury in Somerset.

Great shots, the drogfly is a wonderful. Is at a crop from the whole frame or did you manage to get really close with the 100mm?

Both the photos are whole frame. The dragon fly was really chilled out, let me take about 5 photos and then flew off.
