i've had the tamron 17-50 since thursday and so far it's been great. build quality is excellent. focusing isn't exactly loud, although it does tend to hunt a lot in low light, and it produces very very sharp photos. i've used the canon 17-55 2.8 is before and i honestly can't tell the difference in image quality between the two.

Still learning tell me your thoughts:

AV Priority
FL= 50mm
ISO = 400
S = 1/200
f = 4.0

First Image is 100% crop. I attempted to take the fame image at 2.8 and it was not as sharp. What f stop is this lens the sharpest?

I am new to PP this is my first try. Do you think it is better than the original?

WOW, your PP looks great. Adds a lot of pop to the image. Good job :)

It is pretty sharp already at f/2.8. Try shooting in better light, f/2.8 ISO100, perhaps with a flash and you should see it a bit sharper in its plane of focus. Remember that f/2.8 is a narrow DOF and only parts that you focused on will be sharp.

Expect sharpness to go down somewhat as the ISO is raised.

Peter

Here is the same image playing with LR: Note that image quality is down due to compression:

great all around lens for a 1.6x crop camera. Only gripe is the loud focus. So if you're doing weddings where noise is a factor I would recommend the canon 17-55 is.

I took something like at least 50 shots, it's one of the best of the lot... :)
at 50mm, as close as I could, around 4 or 5 inch... (the minimum to be able to focus), he was too preocupied to pay attention to me... lol
