Nice pics, barq. Did you use an ND filter on the last one? Great flare control, something the Canon 17-55 is often bashed for.

Thanks. no i did not use any ND filter. Just a cheap UV filter. Yes the lens handels flare pretty good.. I was abit suprised by this..

guys comparing this lens to the Canon EF-s 17-55 f2.8, for the price you pay which one is a better deal?? i mean come on the canon is like 1000$ and this one is less than half the price, saying that you should expect a big IQ gap in between, is it the case ??
from the posted pic's i could say the tamron sometimes is even sharper than the canon but it's still uploaded pic's and probably been through PP
im asking because i can afford the canon but i was thinking to save some money for another lens or flash...

I've used both lenses. I'm not going to say one is better than the other, but I will tell you that it's NOT worth the extra $600 to go for the Canon version. Having IS on a walkaround lens with a constant 2.8 aperture is really not that useful, and the IQ difference is nothing to write home about.

The IQ gap is minimal. The extra $500 for the Canon is for the IS and FTM USM. If you feel that you can live without IS and/or USM in that focal range, then the Tamron is a great lens. Otherwise, the Canon is the only lens with IS, FTM USM and constant f/2.8 in that focal range.

Peter

The Canon is sharper at corners and sides at all focal length. Tamron is sharper in the center from 17-35, but it becomes softer than Canon at 50mm. Also, Tamron doesn't have USM and IS. IS can be useful in some situations. But is it worth $600 more, I don't think so. I would rather use it to buy another lens, like a macro or telephoto. That allows me to take more pictures in different situations. For $600 more, I expect sharper image everywhere at all range and F stop, and L level build quality.
