any suggestions for improvement?

Very nice color and I like the composition. A little over exposed in places, did you try metering off the flower or underexposing a bit?

I was using the internal metering on the flower. thanks for the suggestion of underexposing a bit.

Exif on both shot: 75mm, 1/200, f/9, shot in AV mode, and my flash fired. I think next time I will leave the flash at home. This was also the day I learned that if the battery is low, the max shutter speed is 1/200. I should have gone back to my truck to get the spare battery, but at the time I didnt realize why I couldnt get faster shutter speeds.

Seems I still have a lot of room for improvement. :o Though you only fail, when you give up trying. Just means I need to go back and try again. :D

I like that shadow of the bee. Thats one of my favorite flowers very nice
