No envy here, I have two 300mm options (f/5.6 and f/4) at my disposal, so maybe they add up to a 300 2.8. YEAH RIGHT, WHO AM I KIDDING......

I was going to order the 300 f2.8 last week. Decided at the last minute to get the 100-400 instead. I do like it but I've seen some pictures posted with the 300. Extremely sharp. I know in the back of my mind I'll always want that lens. Maybe next year. Any way be sure and post some of your pictures with it. I would like to see them. Congrats.

Thanks guys.

There is still plenty of room in "the Hubble" Club. Fresh minty 300 2.8's in stock now at BH and plenty of great copies on the sales forums for a song.

I think you have to look at what you'll be using each lens for. I primarily use the 300/2.8 for sports and f/2.8 is often a requirement because of really low light. f/4 doesn't cut it for icehockey for instance. If you don't need f/2.8 then I think the f/4 lens is a great choice.

I initially tried that and while the 300/2.8 is one of the few lenses that works OK with the 2X it is not up to the quality of the 500/4. Also, with the 500/4 + 1.4x + 2x you have a... :)

What "sales forums" would those be?
