I'm trying to figure out what is the best rout to go.

B&H has used D60 for $1095, new 10D run $1499.
I'd be using it for portraits and weddings.

any thoughts?

$400 is a lot of money, but before you decide, you need to determine two things:
1. How 'used' is the D60? They should be able to tell you how many shots have been taken with the camera, and what the general condition is.
2. Why did the former owner get rid of it? There are countless possible explanations.....some good, some bad. You will have a hard time getting a straight answer, even from B&H.

I guess if I were faced with this decision, I'd opt for the 10D. When you combine the factors of 10D features vs. D60 features, and then 'new' vs. 'used,' the added peace of mind is well worth $400.00.

Either way, you'll end up with a good camera. It's just that the 10D is a little better, and it will be brand new.

Just my opinion.

I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!

It's hard to advise somebody else on whether something is "worth it" or not, e.g. we don't know how much $400 "feels like" to you.

The 10D has better low-light AF performance (always a beef with the D60), and slightly better high ISO noise. These may be important for weddings.

They're both fine cameras, though.

I paid $1360 for my new 10D a few months ago, ordering online via Gateway. Interestingly, it seems like pricing for the 10D is tighter than it used to be. If you're not in a hurry to get it in your hands, you may be able to save a few bucks by ordering from Dell or Gateway, particularly if you can find coupons and such (Dell often has "10% off on all digital cameras" specials). Note that these guys aren't the best in terms of service.

I bought a brand new, in box, d60 three months ago. No pictures taken on it for $999. You should be able to do better than what you have presented. Check with all your local dealers to see if they have any left in the stock room. You may be suprised. If you can afford the 10D go with it and you should also be able to find a dealer for less than 1499. If you can't, like I could not, you will be extremely happy with the D60. I love mine. This camera is far beyond my ability but I am learning. Good Luck.

I have had the D30,D60 and now have two 10D's. All are fine but I think that you should save and get the 10D. I think its worth the extra money and its resale will always be better. The camera is sturdier and worth the extra dollars which are easily recouped on weddings. You won't regret it. Good Luck Brian......I made $1300 in one hour with my 10D shooting group pictures at a reunion.

A new 10D would be better, but if your budget is tight. A used D60 could be just the thing. I have both and occasionally still use my D60, but only when traveling outdoors. The 10D is much better in the lowlight environment of indoors.

The 10D also has a few other more subtle features, but you would not miss them if you did not know they were there. If money is tight, save the 400 for a better lens.

Just my opinion,

Are you still interested in the 10D?
Have the 10D with Battery grip, brand new never out of box, decided to stay with the Rebel, due to Major Roofing Expenses.

$1600.00 for both + actual ship cost from Tampa, not looking to make $4o.oo on shipping like the BKLYN. BOYS.

Please let me know

Go 10D, a couple of months from now you'll look back and wished you spent the extra $$$. One of the reasons that so many D30 & D60's are popping up is because people are trading them in for 10d's.

I first bought a D60 in September 02. Loved it. Still love it. A couple of months later the 10D was released. I said I would not get one.

I got one.

Awesome camera and a step above the D60. AF is tons better and it has a load of other little features that the D60 does not have like FAT32 support, AdobeRGB support. It has a better feel, balance and ergonomics.

The D60 is a great camera and who cares if it's not being built anymore? It will ALWAYS shoot the same, high quality photos in 5 years that it shoots now.

I doubt that helps all that much, but if it was me, I'd get the 10D and then buckle down for some killer glass.

Hi!
Aside from agreesing with the aforementioned posts, buy the 10D now, worry about it later. You're getting the next generation if you will of camera that has improved on an already great camera (the D60). I have a 10D and got to hold the D60 and to me the 10D feels more solid, that you can hold it tighter, and not worry about it. I'm talking about those of us with a man grip. Besides, if you throw Bog Ed on there, you really have something to talk about in either case. It looks a lot like the 1D/1DS from a distance. I've asked a lot if I'm a pro, and I'm not, but am a keen amateur, on the border of pro. The day I start making real money off of pics I take I recon I can call myself having stepped ito the pro arena. That hasn't happened yet...key word being yet...

To make the choice really interesting, maybe you should also pop in the new digital rebel for about 1000 USD :)

Then you can discuss 'better features for more money' AND 'better features, less flexibility for same money'

Have fun,
Andy

Go with the 10D. The overall features are better, and you get the Digic chip, which adds true value. If you do alot of weddings, it will pay for itself in a few months.
