Do you guys know how good the quality is of the Costco Photo CDs. I know they scan from the negative but how does it look. I have a roll of film and want to get them onto my computer. Suggestions?

Depends on the operator. I use Costco for all of my enlragements and gang prints. The digital info should be quite good as their operators are well trained. This is a large part of the store volume, so they are quality concious.

A 40D, a 30D, some nice glass and a great Shooting Partner.

You should ask the people at the one that's local, to be very sure. On a negative scanner, you can adjust the quality, so if you are looking for very high quality, you might need to request it specifically.

With the advent of the digital revolution many of the small labs have gone under. Costco suddenly became a viable option way out here in the middle of the Pacific.

As bridge to going full digital I would have them process my negs and scan direct to CD, no prints. The scans were excellent at 3-4.5mbs per frame. I would then open the CD in PS or whatever and do the edits. Then load the images into their FTP site: Snapfish. Snapfish is also a very dynamic site. It even allowed custom backprinting w/ my studio name so I didn't have to defend the "Costco" 1 hour lab vodoo to my clients. The final product is then sent back to the Costco for printing. The prints would be ready in a couple of hours for pickup.

This was a great workflow and no hassle of home printing. Of ourse every lab is different (like in pro labs) but it is certanily worth a try in your area.
