A couple of shots from Quivera National Wildlife Refuge. The first is a male Red-winged blackbird. I like how the grass contributes to the composition.

The second is a Great Egret, from an angle that you don't often see. These birds have a tremendous wingspan.

Both taken with a Rebel XT and EF 100-400 L IS at 400mm.

The fist shot is composed well and the grass does indeed contribute to the composition.
Th second shot is a good in-flight to show the long wingspan of the Great Egret, this is a magnificent shot.

Two shots that are just a bit different, and I like them!

Thanks to all for the comments.

The light was not the best that day, but it made for some interesting backgrounds, as in the blackbird shot. The egret shot is part of a series that I rapidly took as it flew away. It was my first time using IS mode II on the 100-400, and the results were all I could hope for in that regard.

The first is a very nicely composed habitat shot of the RWBB. Now you have to get that Egret flying in your direction :D
