Ok its cheap, its fast, its noisy, but is this lens a must buy, is it a wider version of the nifty?? Cheap enough that there is no excuse not to own the lens, despite the fact that i am purchasing a 17-40L once i find one in stock???
All help welcome, also sample images good and bad :)
Thanks, A.

i ahven't been wowed by it. I don't own it and by passed it to get the 28/2.8 and the USm 20/2.8. The 28 i think is very similar to the 35 and I am not a fan of it. noisy and slow it may take nice photos but I am reluctant to take it.

better to get the EF 28/1.8 USM which should be far quieter and faster focus. of course the 2 l's (35,24) are proably worth the cash if you have it.

I have this lens and use it often. In my opinion it's a very nice lens; sharp, lightweight, and good in low light. I have zero complaints with it. Some say it makes noise while focusing, but it's minimal (of no concern to me). I'd send you pictures, but I'm at work. I would recommend it if the length fits your needs/style.

I have it and like it very much. I bought it to use with my 10D as a 'normal' lens. Its a low light lens, that works quite well. I have used it for environmental portraits and been quite happy with it (not close ups, of course).

had it (and sold it)

i sold it to get the 17-40s ;p but I had no problems with the lens

the corner sharpness was ok on a 1.6x crop but the center sharpness was excellent when you stop it down a stop or so

the only major concern i had was the loud "hornet" focusing. i'm not sure about minimal noise, but its far from quiet IMO (i'm spoiled with the silence of USM)

Great little lens. Very sharp and contrasty. The focus noise has never bothered me; unless the lens is hunting for focus it only lasts for a fraction of a second. The attached picture is a 100% crop from the 35mm on a 5D body.

Well it didn't get its nickname "wasp in a matchbox" from nothing. That said, it's a good, small lens that can get the job done. Just don't use it during a wedding ceremony...

I've pretty much decided to go for the sigma 30mm f/1.4 - not much more than the Canon f/2 and optically is supposed to equal the L.
We shall see!
