I am a new G2'er and am finding that when I edit my photos in any photo editing program, they don't seem to look the same when printed out. Although I've monkeyed with the monitor settings and gotten it closer to my printer, it still isn't close enough. I suspect it is my monitor. My printer is an HP Photosmart 1215 which is supposed to be one of the better ones for printing photos. I'm guessing I need a new monitor. Has anyone had this problem of the monitor and printer not matching close enough and what did you do to fix it. Or what would be a good monitor.

can I just ask if the color on your printer pictures are a lot redder than the photos appear on your monitor?

I only ask because recently I owned a Photosmart 1115 and that seemed to be the problem. The pictures printed out much too dark and red. It might be something all Photosmart printers have. I wish I could help... but I never did figure it out. We returned it for a different reason. I hope someone can help out.

sorry,
jackie

I do think they might be redder/darker. I can't return the printer, guess I'll have to figure out how to adjust the monitor to offset. Thanks

This is a common complaint. Unfortunately there is no easy solution. When I got my Epson Photo 780 printer, I had to play with it for quite a while before getting the color just right. I now have profiles for the Heavyweight Matte paper and for the Kodak Ultima glossy film that I use, and I get consistent color every time. I assume that you can control brightness/contrast and individual color saturations within the HP driver just as with the Epson driver. This is what you need to do -- trial and error. Here are my Epson settings just as an example:

For a great discusssion of this topic (and some solutions) see the following web page:

You might want to check out some of the other articles on the Luminous Landscape site.

Best Wishes,

P.S. I've owned both HP and Epson color printers. It's been my experience that the mid-range Epson printers are much better for printing photographs than their HP counterparts. (And yes, your mileage may vary.)
