24-105mm IS L has been my default for 95% of shots I've taken the last 4 months, but now I am using the 17-40mm L. I think the IS L is a better all around lens, stunning really, but the widey covers the range I need for walkaround and will be an effective 3 lens solution with my Bigma and 35mm when I head to Africa next year.

You forgot to get the instruction book and warrantee card out for this 'ebay' shot Dave :-)

50mm 1.8. I can't take a picture of it because it's my only lens, and my G2 is out of batteries.

I think you are right in this case. While the EF-s lenses can indeed be modified to fit on normal EOS bodies ,they won't cover the full frame at the wide end, give lousy edge resolution at the long end and then there's the risk of dmaging the rear element and/or mirro if any attempt isd amde to take shots while zoomed wide.
And then there's the fact that he owns both the 17-40 and 24-105 lenses...there's no point

He is joking with this one:)

I'm finding that unless I need the zoom of 200 or 300mm, this lens is almost always on my body now.

I love it!
