Use the Six for real stealth and a light load. Use the Seven more for travel and excursions where I need to cover more bases.

Exactly what I'm thinking about. One smaller bag for light trips, another for larger loads or travel.

Hey Snir, would this bag hold two bodies w/med to long lenses attached (5D/24-105 30D/300)...just trying to find a bag that will do that AND accomodate two other lenses plus misc..

At the last event that I shot, I only brought the 7. In it, I had:

1D2N w/ 70-200 (hood reversed)
20D w/ 17-55 (hood forward)
580EX
Various batteries
Large Rocket Blower
Lots of cards

If I ditched the Rocket Blower, I could have easily packed another lens.

Has anyone compared this Crumpler 7 Million dollar home to the National Geographic Medium Shoulder Bag? They're about the same size in the interior I think and the NGMSB has a nice strong cloth/hemp exterior with metal buckles to hold everything down.

What material is the outer shell of the Crumpler made of? It looks kinda like canvas in most of the pictures, but none of the stores around here carry them so I can't see them in person.

Trying to decide between these two bags and it's a pain since I can't see the crumpler in person so if anyone can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.

Thanks
Kurt

some pics of my 6 mill home. the closed bag shows a 70-200 mounted. bag loaded with 70-200 (non IS),17-40mm,1.4tc,60mm macro,50mm 1.4,flash,and a canon ex tube. with one of the shorter lens mounted its a much better fit.i hope this helps everyone thinking about buying this bag.

The National Geographic bag is bigger than the Crumpler:

Crumpler 7 Million Dollar Home
Exterior Dimensions 14.96 long x 7.1 wide x 11.02" high (WxDxH)
Interior Dimensions 13.7 x 6.3 x 8.7 (WxDxH)
Weight 2.48 lb
-----------
National Geographic NG-2475 Earth Explorer Medium Shoulder Bag
Exterior Dimensions 16.5 long x 7.8 wide x 11.8" high (WxDxH)
Interior Dimensions 14.9 x 5.5 x 10.2" (WxDxH)
Weight 2.8 lb

I thought about getting the NG bag, but I decided I don't want something quite that large.

Hmmm, the mounted 70-200 f/4 does stick up/out pretty far.

Does it fit in the bag if you lay it across the top, horizontally?

It fits comfortable lying across the top of the dividers (with the tabs folded down) horizontally. using it like that I have to lose the flash or one lens. also the camera is at the top of the bags padding, not a problem unless it takes a big fall. Using it like that would be great for day or weekend trips you don’t have to bring everything you own.

Exactly what I have in mind. I ordered a 7 MDH to hold all my stuff, but I need a smaller bag for just a few things. I'm thinking about the 5 or 6 MDH or a small Domke.

Steve, one more question: What can you fit "under" the mounted 70-200 f/4 while it's lying across the top of the dividers, horizontally?

thats a good question. i would say you could hold 3 lens the size of my 17-40mm plus 1 or 2 smaller primes. with the deviders it comes with you have 5 sections. over all i like the messenger bag look. it dosnt look like you have a camera in it.

I know this question has been asked before, but could you put a laptop (15") in the 7mdh? I am looking for a crumpler to hold my gear in my sig plus my laptop for extended trips

NOOOB WARNING - I am going to stop being such a lurker one of these days....
Canon XTI - Kit Lens, Nifty Fifty, 70-200L F/4 IS, 24-105L F/4 IS and enough questions to annoy anyone!

Wow... that might be perfect! Small stuff on bottom, mounted 70-200 f/4 across the top. I like it! :)

Ummm, any chance you wanna take another pic? ;) I'd love to see how the mounted 70-200 "lays" while resting in this top position with small stuff on the bottom.

Great question. I've got a 15.4" Dell 6000 laptop, and a 7 MDH on the way. I'll have to check this one out myself! :)
