As a newbie to the SLR world, I have a question regarding low light focus accuracy.

This was shot with a 30D and the 24-70L. This was on center auto focus at "24-70" numbers on the box, MLU, and 2 second countdown on a tripod.

The issue here is when I turned on two more lamps on near the box about 2 feet front-right of the box, the focus accuracy is dead on. Without the "helper" lights, it back focuses as evidenced by the number "50" which is 2 feet behind the box in the pic attached.

Regardless if the "helper" lights are on or off, the camera does not hunt for focus. It locks on instantaneously.

I have dones the battery and focus test charts and they are all dead on but done with decent lighting.

Is this normal? Any comments?

Yeah, I am not sure what to make of this. Is this an issue with the the 30D or lens?
