Does anyone know anything, good or bad, about a New Jersey-based online store called Express Cameras? They're selling the digital Rebel body only for $674. Can't find a consumer review/rating of them.

Egads! Thanks, Don. I'll have to remember pricegrabber.com as a good ratings clearing house. Looks like I'll have to search for something else as a backup to the 10D.

I smell something nasty here, a really woofy (rotten) fish!
Be ye forewarned that prices like that are probably of the no package, no deal type, or dodgy dealers. It could also be greymarket, that is like selling a Europe version in the US. The warantee is no good in the US, and all you have is potentially a lot of headache. Another piont is that something to me seems fishy, but can't put my finger on it. I can't confirm this, but it is of the "buyer beware" type. How on earth can they sell the 10D for $1189, body only? It is just short $1500 from B&H and Ritzcamera. Run!!! ...and best have your cash/credit card with you!!!!
The flip side, is if you happen to be in NJ, go pay a visit and see what they are like. Again I'm not convinced. I deal exclusively with B&H in NYC and they are a world class store! I'd happily a little pay more for piece of mind and not worry about it. Beware of other dodgy dealers in the NYC area, especially Crooklyn! The choice is yours, but who is the weakest link? Hopefully not you!
Goodbye.
I guess you have to see Anne Robinson do it to understand it. It's a riot.

Just my 5 pence...

I purchased one from Express Cameras and will be fighting the Credit Card Charges. Among other things the shipping charge was increased by $50. over the web receipt.

I got my 300D (649 body only) from CameraTopia and they shipped it out 2 day and the lenses came a week later and for the delay they did over night. I know they did not have great write-ups or reviews but I tell you they did deliver. Now with a low price you usually give up some service. I knew what I wanted what I wanted to pay and they were a good place to go. But the person that helped me even answered all my questions about the lenses I was looking at.

Now, as every review I heard or read said yes they tried to sell every acc. in the book for it but I did not want any, said no and that was that. If you would like a name and number of my contact I would recommend him and would buy again from him. PM me if you would.

Tom

Seems a little too cheap for what seems to be a hot Christmas item.

You guys are walking on some pretty thin ice there. Even if you do get a camera without credit hassles or whatever other underhanded scheme these slimeballs dream up, you may find yourself with a second-hand camera. Either a refurb, or one that was returned for whatever reason.

Buy from a reputable company. What you save in $$$ will more than likely be given up in frustration, many, many phone calls, etc, etc, etc.

We're not talking that much money either. Just $150-$200 or so. My piece is mind is worth MUCH more than that. Good luck, and if you buy from one of those near-black-market companies, don't come crying here when your credit card starts showing mysterious charges or you get no product and the phone (if they even have a phone number listed) plays the "Sorry, this number has been disconnected and there is no new number" tune.

Well I did check and all is up and up, you can verify the S/N with canon and all was good, usa products. I am not saying that there are no scams out there, but what I got, for what a paid was very worth it.
