It is in bulb mode, so yes, that is exactly what happens. Since it is in a (supposedly) dark room, anything that goes on before or after the flash wouldn't affect anything at all since the flash is the only source of light hitting the sensor.

Simply close the shutter after, and you're good to go, as long as the flash doesn't go off twice, resulting in a double exposure ;-)a

Those are some sweet pictures! If I had the technical knowhow, I'd try this out as a side project even if I didn't need it! Maybe something for me later on down the road. Great job!

Hi, I have built a microcontroller based device, which you can use to to make water drop photos. It has inputs from microphone and/or a laser detector. You can set delay in milliseconds for triggering a flash and opening the shutter in sync. It can control a dripping device, too. It has an LCD screen with menu to make settings and test the sensors. The whole program of the device can be updated via USB. If you are interested I can help you to build one. I'm going to build a new one myself and I will document it on my blog:

For my version 1, I am using an electret microphone powered by 9V battery. This will be fed to an external amplifier, and the output of the amp will be connected to an SCR. The SCR will control the firing of the camera or flash.

On a future version 2, I'll build a small amplifier and put it in the same box.

On my version 1 box, I can use other types of sensor like a PZM mic, or photocell. For now, I'm using an external monitor as my amplifier.

I've tested the operation successfully (on a breadboard), but haven't taken any high-speed shots yet.

My son / disabled would love one of these, please, where can he get one made, thank you
