Ccd noise when warm

One day I took 80 Pictures with 1-sec shutter speed
quite fast ( in 15 minutes).

After 40 pics there was more and more colored little
dots in the images.

I have never found out something like that earlier.
I think the only explanation is that the CCD
warmed too much.

Has anyone seen the same thing happened ?

Maybe I should cool the camera awhile next time
and take a little slowlier.

Usually, I don't use so long exposure times, but
this time I didn't have a choice.

Hi Yapu,

My G1 seems to be one of the worst in this matter. I get coloured dots all over after only a few photos taken in 1 s. When I shoot more and more the noise is visible in speeds up to 1/6s and also in noise-reduced photos when the camera is really hot.

So I always try to avoid speeds between and including 1 second - 1/6s. Sometimes you get it anyway (long long exposure indoor sessions) like I write in https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=129

Note: In most auto modes G1 can not go lower than 1s. You really should use Tv or M mode to make the shutter speed 1.3s or slower. This enables the noise reduction. It makes a big difference.

You can reduce the rate of hear buildup by always flipping the LCD out away from the camera body if you have the LCD on...also, I have found that the microdrive and the heat it generates bring on this condition a little bit faster than using the flash cards.

I made the mistake of walking around a museum with my camera on for a good 30 minutes so I would be ready for a shot...by that time, even shots at 1/30 in RAW mode showed nice HOT HOT pixels that are not there under normal use.

So, I have thoughts on this topic--let me share. I know that the terms hot pixels and stuck pixels are used interchangably, but I believe they are two distinct phenomena, albeit with similar consequences.

My camera (G1) certainly has a stuck pixel. It's magenta all the time, regardless of shutter speed or time of use (and heat buildup) of camera. I made a mask of its location in PS, and always "hit" it with the clone stamp as the first step for every image I process to TIFF or JPG.

On hot days and long exposures my camera shows many more "hot pixels" that appear different colors in different locations (always the same locations, but sometimes a subset of them appear, depending on the image and conditions.) These are much harder to deal with, as they require me to carefully inspect my images when I think conditions may have generated them. They are essentially mildly unpredictable, and a p-i-t-a. However, I think these are a problem with the technology as it's currently given to us in production digital cameras 5000 ft (x meters!)

cheers,
