I was going to say my 17-40L as it's my workhorse and delivers great images everytime (unless I bung it up!) but for sheer fun and joy with some killer images I'll say my 100 F/2.8 Macro.

Soon I'll be buying one of the five 70-200 zooms and I suspect that will take the prize soon enough. I'm quite happy with all of my lens choices really, even the 50.

On a side note (a little off the topic) I had put off buying a speedlight for quite some time because I thought lenses were more fun and I'd get more satisfaction, but my 430ex has really brought new life to my photography and it's a blast playing with it.

You're tempting me to get the ST-E2 to add a whole new dimension to my 430EX..... with the money saved from my Sigma, I can do that.. plus a $15 umbrella..

The one I was most thrilled with after I got it was the 35 1.4L, hands down. Spectacular lens.

Sure it was. I just worded it wrong. I was thrilled with the results. better? I don't mean I was thrilled to get it (although I was).

For the past nine months, it has been the 24-105L zoom. But over the course of my photographic life the main lens has been the 35mm f/2, first on Nikon manual focus film cameras and then on Canon autofocus film and digital cameras. Also, the 90 or 100mm macro lenses which are my main studio lenses.

It is my Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II.

But it'll probably change to Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM tomorrow. :D

I'm just a kidder. Sorry.

I'd have to say the 70-200. Only because I suck with the 85L, at least so far. Not much better with the 135 either.

The 300 f2.8 will definitely make me most happy, followed closely by the 45 tilt shift, when I get them, that is.

Eeek now you're tempting me! If I were to look at that I'd strongly consider just picking up a 580EX to control the 430EX from the shoe, and maybe an offshoe cord. The lure of multi-flash is rather strong, but I'm still on the learning curve of my first one.

My 70-200mm f/4 L and my 50mm f/1.8, in quite different situations.
