Assuming that the foundational purpose of photography is to condense an entire story into a single instant - well then, this shot achieves that goal in spades. Granted I would have liked for the boy to be within the focal plane, but who really cares. The story told far far far outweighs the minor technical demerit.

One of my favorite shots I have seen here in a long time. (And that includes any of my own!)

I hope you get a copy of this shot to the Ref, the young girls family,

I agree. The girl's Mom & Dad will want big prints of this!

The discussion on this shot should remind us of the fact that photographing people is all about EXPRESSION!

No one has mentioned the fact that both the girl's and boy's hands are chopped off at the wrist. No one has mentioned the fact that the boundary line on the wrestling mat in the background isn't level. Because when you capture an expression like that, nothing else matters.

Fantastic shot!

Great shot. The expressions all around are perfect.
I love how she's staring right through the kid, the ref is trying to hold laughter in, and the boy's arms are almost on his hips in disbelief.

Well you certainly captured the moment which in my opinion makes the picture no matter what level you are at.

The look on the Ref's face makes the shot for me. Nice catch. :D
BTW, 10 years later, those two will probably end up Married to each other.
