I just wish it would work on full frame and 1.3 crops. Otherwise the lens would be perfect. I'm hoping that somehow someone will say, I'm wrong. :)

didn't you have to send your 30 1.4 in to sigma? in fact most of the sigma lenses you tout have had to go in...18-50....24-70...

there have been plenty of well-documented problems reported with the 30 1.4.

if i'm trollin' you're shillin' :D .

you mean non-canon lens ;) . the 17-70 is one sigma lens that most seem to be happy with the first time around.

Don't worry ... if there is any problem then Sigma customer service is top notch and in very little time you will get a custom tuned lens back from them. Dunno what the fuss about this kind of thing is

Condyk,

Thanks...I was just pulling Ed's chain :) He does have a thing for Sigma lenses?

So far I have been very fortunate in my lens purchases...8 of 8 ordered from the Internet and all keepers right out of the box. The only focus and/or sharpness issues were me! I have found that each lens is a seperate tool and each has a learning curve associated with it. I havn't mastered my lenses yet but I have progressed well beyond pixel peeking :)

If the Sigma does have issues then back to the factory it goes and I know that they will make it right.

my first comment was more to the fact that you were making your first non-canon purchase ... that you chose one of the more controversial lenses in terms of Q&A was an irony that i'm sure others noticed too.

i hope it works out for you the first time. i truly do .

and now i'm off for monterey for a few days food, photography, sunny beaches, sports (triathlon), female and canine companionship and whatever else with my bag of canon-only lenses  .
