Hi there,

these shots are from today, I saw this bird limping in the middle of a roundabout, so I went to back to investigate. The reason he was limping was to distract all the passing cars, on a closer inspection there was a female snuggled down incubating 4 speckled eggs. I managed to get a few shots before a truck (really loud) scared her off so dodging cars raced and fired of a few shots. I waited for a while and she returned, snuggled down and her mate suddenly developed his limp again.

The saddest part to this it's a very busy intersection, if and when they hatch they will probably be killed the fluffballs wander about I will return and photograph them. When these birds nest the council even waits to cut the grass. Hopefully they make a run for safety one night under the brightness of the street lights.

Shot with my 70-200mm F/4 L, I love this lens!

Comments and Critacism more than welcome.

Regards Darren

Awesome photos of the bird. Glad you posted these. Now I'm worried about them. The stray cats or snakes, even other birds, are the big threats. Hope the family makes it.

I've never seen a Lapwing egg, thanks for posting. The bird captures are very nice especially the first. Good job Darren.

Excellent shots for details and colour and a very good story of the plight of the banded lapwing (Gorgeous bird). Well done Darren, nice ones.

Thanks Anthony,

a friend told me that it's actually a masked lapwing, but either way I hope the outcome is a good one

Thanks for looking,

Regards Darren
