Hi,

Being very new to DSLR, and in need of other lenses to go with the kit. I'm hoping to pick up a 50mm 1.8 MKII.

Here in the UK I've seen prices vary from £75 to £89.99 and was wondering where do you UK members get your lenses. I see B&H mentioned a lot but this is no good for me :( though the prices seem great with current exchange rates.

Thanks

BTW - I was thinking of using Bristol Camera for the lens

I have used Park Cameras and have found their prices to be quite competitive and their service very good. www.parkcameras.com (external link)

I try and buy from shops rather than from internet companies where possible even if its more expensive. Just trying to hold back the day when the local shops have closed down and you have to use the internet. This seems to be a common problem over in the states, just hope it doesn't happen here to soon.

I got my 50 f/1.8 picked up in Hong Kong for around £40, check ebay.

For my first major lens purchase I'll most likely use a shop (Jessops), it costs more but places like Jessops offer +2 years warranty and accidental damage cover, great piece of mind, should it break or get dropped over 3 years!.

Jessops are generally pricey, they take advantage with things like memory as most customers won't think to look online or elsewhere. BUT use the 10% discount on http://www.camerapricebuster.co.uk/ (external link) and suddenly Jessops are cheapest for many things.

I'd also check out Kerso on eBay, http://stores.ebay.co.uk/FLASH-CAMERA (external link)

Just picked up a 70-200mm f/2.8 IS L from Flash Cameras on ebay.

Imports them from the US to order. Service was excellent and his prices are exceedingly good, about 20% off WarehouseExpress.

It's not how much kit you have, it's what you do with it that counts.......but at least L glass LOOKS good !!:D
