to zoom in 100% of the whole image so that you can see who sharp a lens is or how much noise there is

In the bottom left corner of your image window (assuming you use photoshop) there is a number with a percentage in it. If you highlight it and type in whatever percentage you want and hit enter you are away. You might have to scroll around the image to find the part you are looking for.

What if you don't use PhotoShop?

highlandpiper,
Ypur question seems to be answered so I thought I would post an example to show you.
Here is the photo

IMAGE: http://johnbdigital.com/wildlife/seagull_opinion.jpg

and here is a 100% crop of the same photo

IMAGE: http://johnbdigital.com/wildlife/seagull_opinion_100crop.jpg

Click for Specs (external link)

Like what ssim said: the crop was taken from the photo being viewed in software at 100% I then make a 500 x 333px crop from the 100% photo and save as new file.
If you are using Digital Photo Pro it is done like this:
Load your photo and click view and select 100% then click tools then start trimming tool. A new window pops up with your photo and you can just draw a box on your photo and then click on width and put 500 then height 333 (any size will work) then click ok then just click file and convert and save. This will save a 100% crop at the size of 500 x 333px
Hope that helped :D

It doesn't look the same to me as it does to Radtech1, but I still can't tell the difference...
