so i started my college newspaper career yesterday with 5 potraits of some important kids.

and now my next assignment is shooting the 9/11 memorial we are having. its from 1045 to 11am.

i am not sure what to have as my primary lens on my 30D. my friend who lives across the hall had a 75-300 4-5.6 lens which he said i can borrow but i tested it out and its not good in low light without a high ISO.

i am supposed to capture human emotion and the general activites of the event. so thats why i thought i should borrow his 75-300....because i dont want to get to close to people if they are crying.... etc.

this is my first real assignment so i am a bit nervous because these photos will take up the entire back side/page in color. (normally only the front page is color)

this is what i am thinking of bringing...
canon 30D
EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 USM
28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 II USM
75-300mm 4-5.6(my friends lens)

and i think i will leave these in my dorm:
100mm f/2.8 USM Macro
50mm f/1.8 II

what do u think about this choice of lens for this event? also if anyone has any experience....is there a time during the event when i should stop taking photos. like during the moment of silence; should i stop taking photos because of the shutter sound?

Canon 30D | 17-85mm EF-S with IS | 430EX Flash
50mm f/1.8 II | 18-55mm lens kit
70-200mm f/4 L

Grain can increase the emotion in a scene - particularly with a b/w photo.

I agree.

If youve only got 15mins, you might want to just get one lens to do the whole deal, not mess around with lens changes, if i were gonna do this, id probably take my widest lens, and try to show everyone together as a group, unified by the event. - your supposed to be pretentious at college ;)
